Chapter

8

Adrian noticed that Jordyn was quiet, though out the rest of the ceremony and on the way home. He finally broke the silence. ”What’s wrong? You’ve have said anything to me since you came back tot the table.”

“Why me?” She asked wondering why he was choosing her.

“Why you what?” He was confused.

“All the model types out here, the singers, the groupies, why me?”

“I told you Jordyn, I like you!” He said a little frustrated. He started to pull over on the side of the street. They were only a few blocks from where Jordyn live. “I used to get teased as a child.”

“You?” She asked taken back by his statement.

“Yes. I’ve always liked bigger women. My brothers and friends used to tease me about it.” He reminisced. “My first real girlfriend was in high school. I loved her so much.”

“So what happened?” He had Jordyn’s attention.

“I hid our relationship because I was too embarrassed to show her off to people. It was my own insecurities.” He sat back to get comfortable. “I lost my first love because I was worried about what people thought. It took me until last year to realize it wasn’t about what people thought it was about what I thought and felt. Football taught me this.”

“How is that?” She asked.

“Football kept me grounded. But with that came the haters of course and the naysayers. I realized that didn’t stop me from playing and reaching my goal of becoming a football star. So why should it stop me from loving who I love?”

He leaned in to kiss Jordyn. “Stop questioning shit, you’re fine.” He started the car back up and continued down the street to her house.

The next morning Jordyn work up with what he Adrian told her on his mind. He was right, she shouldn’t care about what other people think of her. She was smart, and beautiful, and was a great person all around. Her weight didn’t stop her from getting her degree, or having her best friends, or even attracting Adrian.

That day, she made plans with her brothers. She hadn’t spent much time with them since they had moved to Delaware. It was about an hour ride but she had her Beyoncé playlist on her phone, and she sang and danced all the way down the highway. She actually hated driving on the highway by herself. She felt it was too much space for the crazy drivers to have.

She got to her brothers’ apartment earlier than expected. She loved spending time with them. It was always a good time with the Blake kids. “Hey Jordy!” Collin said with his arms outreached.

“Hey Col, I’ve missed you guys.” Even though they were only 11 months apart her brothers always felt like she was way younger and did everything they could to protect her.

“So what’s been new with you?” Justin asked.

“First of all, why does ya’ll apartment look like this?” She asked scanning the room and screwing her face up at the mess. They had sneakers, clothes, and food boxes everywhere.
